Sustainable Living Guide - Homepage Redesign

Multi-Faceted UI/UX Contributions During 6-Month Internship

UI/UX Design | UX Designer Internship

Sustainable Living Guide (SLG) is an international platform for regenerative education, climate action, and eco-conscious living. It provides online classes, global programs, and sustainability toolkits to empower community wellbeing.
Ecological Music Alliance (EMA), a sub-brand of SLG, celebrates the synergy between music, healing, and the environment.
During my 6-month internship

(June - November 2024), I contributed to both SLG and EMA, redesigning web components that spanned homepage layouts, educational rows, and visual framework

My Role

  • UX/UI Designer

  • Content Organizer

  • Branding Integration

  • WordPress Collaboration

Challenge 1

Unstructured Homepage Experience

The original SLG homepage presented a dense set of offerings without clear visual hierarchy. CTAs blended into content blocks, and row sections felt unbalanced. It lacked guidance for users unfamiliar with the platform’s breadth. My focus was on introducing rhythm, spacing, and typographic priority.

Challenge 2

EMA’s Unique-but-Coherent Identity

Ecological Music Alliance (EMA) needed to look distinct from SLG while visually signaling it belonged under the same umbrella. I helped create rows and section designs that balanced the creative energy of music with SLG’s clean, nature-driven aesthetic — all while applying consistent UI rules.

The Elements

Contact Page Layout

I contributed to the layout for EMA’s Contact Us page, ensuring it aligned with SLG's design system. The form was structured for simplicity, clarity, and accessibility with proper label hierarchy and mobile responsiveness in mind.

About Us Layout

I iterated on the About Us page layout, improving the readability of text blocks and incorporating imagery in ways that reflect EMA’s musical and ecological themes.

Row Build Contribution Summary

From headers and contact pages to in-progress modules, I collaborated across team roles on modular row construction. My work emphasized responsive spacing, clarity, and reuse of UI components.

Branding Alignment

From headers and contact pages to in-progress modules, I collaborated across team roles on modular row construction. My work emphasized responsive spacing, clarity, and reuse of UI components.

The Elements

EMA Header Design

I contributed to refining the header navigation for Ecological Music Alliance (EMA), ensuring clarity for both individual users and businesses. The layout prioritizes accessibility and user segmentation, with key actions like “Log In,” “Sign Up,” and “Donate” placed for visibility. A clean top bar and logical link flow support smooth entry into core pages like About, Music, Sustainability, and Events.

EMA Footer Design

The footer was designed to encapsulate the entire EMA ecosystem — from educational offerings and partnership opportunities to newsletter subscription and social media presence. The use of structured columns helps users easily find relevant links, while the consistent green tone reinforces the brand’s environmental commitment.

Events + Sponsors Row

This row was designed to feature upcoming live events alongside trusted sponsor logos — combining immediate action with credibility. I created a horizontally scrollable event carousel with date/time, event type, and CTA buttons, followed by a clean sponsor section. This pairing encourages users to explore while reinforcing SLG/EMA’s ecosystem of global partnerships.

FAQ Accordion Section

I implemented an FAQ accordion layout to streamline user support content without overwhelming the page. This interactive section allows visitors to browse key questions efficiently while maintaining a clean, visually spacious interface.

Future Opportunities

Smarter recommendations using AI to generate personalized itineraries based on user preferences, location, and travel history

  • Integrated cost-splitting tools for better group planning transparency

  • Improved accessibility options for travelers with cognitive or physical challenges

  • Localized “Explore” tab powered by user-submitted places and community-curated guides

  • Trip Memory Exports – Generate sharable visual summaries (collages, maps, timelines) at the end of a trip

Reflections

This capstone project taught me the power of designing with clarity and intention. I learned how to prioritize user needs over feature ambition, adapt based on real feedback, and balance aesthetics with utility. From research to refinement, every decision was informed by people’s actual travel experiences. It was a chance to lead UX end-to-end: shaping strategy, synthesizing insights, and building interactions that feel human.

It also deepened my confidence in collaborative product thinking, team dynamics, and embracing iteration as growth not rework.
