Overview
This project focused on redesigning Scott Yu-Jan's existing iPhone charging dock to incorporate an Apple Watch charger, addressing a common user need for consolidating charging solutions. The design challenge involved seamlessly integrating the Apple Watch charger while maintaining the dock's aesthetic and functionality.

The Problem
Many users own iPhones and Apple Watches an AirPods, requiring separate charging solutions, yet most charging solutions cater to each device separately. This leads to tangled cables, increased desk or bedside clutter, and a fragmented user experience—especially during travel or overnight charging routines.
Solution
The redesigned dock offers an all-in-one charging solution that seamlessly integrates both the iPhone and Apple Watch into a single, compact unit. By combining functionality with a minimalist aesthetic, it reduces clutter, simplifies the charging experience, and provides a cleaner, more organized setup for everyday use.
Design Inspiration
This dock draws inspiration from the minimalist design principles of Max Braun. The primary goal was to enhance the existing iPhone dock's functionality by seamlessly integrating an Apple Watch charging puck, maintaining the original aesthetic and footprint while offering a more affordable and visually consistent solution.

Challenge
While the market offers multi-device charging solutions for iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods, many are expensive and lack a cohesive aesthetic. Notably, official Apple charging docks and offerings from brands like ANKER often come with a premium price tag for their integrated multi-device solutions.

User research (Hypothetical)
User Research: Initial feedback was gathered from friends and roommates regarding the convenience of having integrated charging for iPhone and Apple Watch in a single dock. They appreciated the potential for decluttering their desks and enhancing the overall aesthetic. The concept was well-received, highlighting the desire for a more streamlined charging solution.

Design Process
Ideation & Sketching: Explored various configurations for integrating the Apple Watch charger, considering ergonomics, cable management, and aesthetics. Sketches focused on different locking mechanisms and placement of the watch charger.
3D Modeling & Prototyping: Utilized [mention 3D modeling software - e.g., Fusion 360, Tinkercad] to create a 3D model of the redesigned dock. Prototyping involved multiple iterations of the push-pull mechanism for the Apple Watch dock, considering the confined internal space. Explored various spring tensions and strengths before settling on readily available push-pull mechanisms designed for drawers and closets from Amazon, which proved to be a cost-effective and appropriately sized solution for horizontal integration within the dock, offering a viable option for potential mass production.
